Empowering Youth Through Aquaculture: A Journey of Learning and Collaboration
On October 27–28, 2025, Livingwood Consultants Limited
organized an inspiring exchange
farm visit for hatchery and nursery participants, promoting
youth empowerment through practical aquaculture training. The two-day event
took participants across three leading aquaculture farms in Kenya—Muga Fish Farm (Homabay County),
Aquarech Farm (Kisumu
County), and Jumbo
Farm (Kakamega County)—to gain hands-on experience in catfish and tilapia production.
At Muga Fish Farm,
participants explored hatchery management, learning essential steps such as egg incubation, larval care, and water
quality control. The sessions provided valuable insights into
ensuring healthy, high-survival fingerlings. Aquarech Farm offered practical lessons in
nursery management, including grading,
feeding, and disease control, while showcasing innovative
aquaculture technologies such as digital
monitoring and automated feeding systems. The final stop at Jumbo Farm emphasized broodstock selection, pond management,
and enterprise development,
reinforcing participants’ technical and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The visit, graced by Mr. Charles Ngala (Field Consultant) and Mr. Lucas Abillah (CEO, Livingwood Consultants Limited), highlighted the role of youth in driving sustainable aquaculture. By equipping participants with practical skills and business knowledge, the exchange fostered both job creation and food security, marking a significant step toward a vibrant, youth-led aquaculture industry in Kenya.
